Funfilled February!

Another month whizzes by and while I felt like I had been busy with things, I didn’t think I had been THIS busy!
Read on to find out what I got up to this February in New York City!

Best places I went out to eat/drink:

I was lucky to experience sushi making at ICE (Institution of Culinary education). (Thanks to my gorgeous fiancé who got me a "Japanese evening cooking course" for my birthday in December). We learnt to make not only sushi but dumplings, buckwheat noodles, and tempura but the best bit was we got to eat it all together afterward, and washed it down after with delicious Lychee martini’s and Cucumber cups filled with Ginger and lime Saki infused shots made by our very own chefI would highly recommend- was a fun and delicious evening.
Other places I enjoyed especially this month was eating Crepes at Eight turn crepes for pancake Tuesday (I had two whole Crepes to myself- they were that delicious!) its a Japanese creperie- They make their crepes with Rice flour! And also a new fan of Swedish coffee Chain, "FIKA" defo my new fave coffee joint atm.

What I watched/read/listened to/got lost in...

I listened to mostly Kendrick Lamar after that Grammys performance! Wow wow wow!
And I didn't watch any films nada, nothing, zero, zilch not ONE this whole month!! I KNOW, like how did that even happen? I love watching films and of all the months (Oscars month).  "Too much Gallivanting" as my Mum says! But I think I make up for it because I did go to the Pacific Northwest Ballet at New York City Centre. That’s pretty highbrow culture right there right? That's equal to about 4 mainstream films. It was my first time to the ballet and I really really love it. It was more a Classical ballet Contemporary dance hybrid performance so very accessible. Pro tip for budget friendly ballet goers ($10 tix from theskint.com)

I also went to WTF - WAKING THE FEMINISTS @IrishArtsCentre
If you haven’t heard about this movement- read about it here and how it started.
As it started in Ireland and its a real issue for woman in the arts and every (fucking) industry I really wanted to be part of this discussion and understand why we are still stuck in 2016! It was a  true eye opening evening where I learned not only is it salary inequality contention but it’s spread across the arts in so many facets. A few areas which really rang true for me was how we dont value feminine traits in performances compared with aggressive violent performances. Also there was a question around how reviewers review woman in theatre/film which is usually ends up boiling down to how "fuckable" the actress was in that! I also learnt about the bechdal test, which is pretty depressing in itself that there needs to be a test to see if we play fair and most films and tv shows today fail this test!

"No point complaining, there’s a lot to do, a lot to change but at least leave here and decide to do one thing!

What I ate most of;

Well this is what I tried eat most of the time, but really its what I ate after feeling guilty about eating too much sugar or darn Pizza the night before! : (
I am contemplating a 'cleanse' in March to try wean off the sugar...ADDICTED!

What I did with my man and my friends?

My Friends Augusta and Laura threw a girlie Oscars party to make Oscars viewing a little more fun this year! I was rooting for Irish nominees of course [ROOM (Lenny Abrahamson, Emma O'Donohue) BROOKLYN, STUTTERER & Saoirse Ronan]. Stutterer won best live action short by first time director!  get iN!! I also ventured to the museum of Sex which was an experience but not as exciting as bouncing and a bouncing castle of boobs seems at first! I also did some high line strolls at Sunset that just seems to never get old!

Where I got physical, (PHYSICAL!)
I still love class pass for adding variety to my workout. I did 14 classes again this month; I tried focus on strength building this month because I am as weak as a kitten!
Heres the round up!
3x Bikram yoga classes @Bikram Yoga NYC.*
3x HIIT Core/TRX fusion classes @Exhale (My favorite studio on class fit!)
1x Pilates fusion class @Crunch fitness
2x Crossfit classes @:
1x "jumpersize" (Trampoline fitness) @Jumplife (Fun way to spend a Saturday with a friend)
1X Diva Dance Fitness

Currently going through a love/hate relationship with bikram. I have been getting intense nausea and headaches after classes lately, which I believe can happen mainly because of dehydration but possibly could be a serious as hypertension which is a bit scary. It’s strange because sometimes I will have hydrated adequately before and during a class (2 or more liters) and feel amazing after and others not so much : (

What sucked about this month?

HOMESICKNESS....
It stung especially bad this month; my brother and his wife welcomed a new baby boy (Cian) to the family. My First nephew- He will be 7 months when I get home to meet him.
Also we missed a friends wedding so was tough seeing all the photos on facebook!

What creative things did I do?

I made a list of creative projects that i want to make happen in 2016 and Skype dated my creative BFF to help me get back on track making my own films again, baby steps eh!
Meanwhile all that in between I made a wedding video for my brother in law to be. Great wedding on New Years eve at the Guinness Storehouse Dublin!
